World Hypertension Day

World Hypertension Day is observed every May 17th in order to raise awareness and promote hypertension prevention, detection and control. High blood pressure is the main risk factor to develop cardiovascular disease. This year's theme is "Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer", focusing on combating low awareness rates worldwide, especially in low to middle income areas, and accurate blood pressure measurement methods.

Measuring Blood Pressure is a simple, rapid and familiar method of screening and monitoring cardiovascular status. Inaccurate diagnosis of hypertension has significant clinical, social and economic consequences. Here is the Simple Protocol for an Accurate BP Measurement.

Uscom BP+ improves the assessment and management of hypertension. It provides a highly accurate and repeatable measurement of central and brachial blood pressure and pulse pressure waveforms for analysis (PWA) using a familiar upper arm cuff.

BP+ in the Christchurch Pharmacies is implemented in the Health Screening NZ service.  https://lnkd.in/d-qt343V

“PWA machines work similarly to a traditional blood pressure test, where a cuff is attached to the arm and inflated. But instead of simply measuring blood pressure, the machines analyse the shape of the pulse wave generated by the heart – the greater the reflected wave, the stiffer the blood vessels are and the more likely there’s a heart attack risk. New PWA machines such as the Australian BP+ machine used by CardiAction.”
